A big thank you to Jan and her entire team for making my weekend very smooth and thoroughly fascinating. I can't wait to book the Advanced Course!-Gilly Harding
"Dear Jan and Tony,
I am sure this is not the first time you have heard what a wonderful Dog Listener you have in Louise Pay. However, Louise is so much more. She not only helped us “hear” our dog, Spike but she helped us see ourselves and how our tensions and worry manifested themselves in Spike.
We cannot ever thank Louise enough for helping Spike learn to live with us and helping us let him discover the joys of being a dog! Louise is and will continue to be our answer, our hope and our support-and Spike’s best friend.
We will always be grateful to Jan Fennell for sharing her journey intotheworld of wolves and to Louise Pay for being our personal guide." Shelley and Virginia.
“I came across this title by accident. I don't even remember what I was searching for! I had heard about the Dog Whisperer and the Horse Whisperer, and was intrigued by the title of this book.
What a revelation: in one easy to read book, she explains what her theory of dog training is and where it comes from. She debunks much of the popularly held methods and, instead, tells you clearly why and what to do to fix all manner of bad behaviour. All I can say is that I am trying her methods on my 9 year old Labrador,(who was never really bad), and I can already see a more relaxed dog after only 10 days. Well worth the read. Lucinda”
Melody and I would just wanted to say a massive Thank You. Melody was a rescue dog that was on her last chances in kennels and nobody thought that she would ever be a normal, well behaved dog. She was aggressive, hyperactive, obsessive and nervous, to mention a few. Now 1 year later after a hell of a lot of time, effort and patience she is becoming the chilled out lovable dog that I saw deep inside her when we first met. I have been using the Amichien Bonding techniques for the last 6 months and in that time Melody has shown the most improvements. She is still not perfect and is very reluctant to give up her stubborn snarly tendencies towards me and other dogs, but I know that she is relinquishing her self built throne and allowing me to be the rightful leader. Melody is my proof, Amichien Bonding was my tool. Siân Davis
“It was definitely one of those unforgettable moments (don't get a big head Tony!) and particularly to see them both together. Jan is even more enthusiastic, contagious, passionate and inspiring in the flesh...with a laptop I wanted to steal as it was full to the brim of the most amazing footage! A couple of us stayed long behind the end of class to see extra bits she so willingly offered to share and hear more wonderful tips! Best thing I ever did in my entire life :D” Hannah Jarvis
“Hi Jan, my husband and I just did the Foundation Course inGeelongwith Tony. We thoroughly enjoyed it. He is an amazing speaker, easy to understand and very happy to answer questions. We have put your techniques into practice and have seen results with our boxers already. Thanks for sending us your son and many thanks to you for figuring out such a simple yet effective way of helping us to help our dogs without frustration or aggression.” Leanne Verbaken
“What kind of sense is that? Here we go, I thought, it's another jump onto the band wagon - we'll be having Squirrel nudgers next and tortoise feelers. And then I read the book - WOW! I had a problem dog and I had tried everything. Training courses, lessons, books, diet, castration, inside, outside - everything and in the end, his aggression to other dogs combined with a lump on his side plus he was getting on in years - I had him put down. Would the book have saved his life? Probably, Yes but it is also about my personality and the book has shown me parts of myself that I had yet to recognise. Thanks for the book, Jan, it makes good sense out of difficult problems.”
Jan Fennell has offered the help I have been seeking for several years. As the owner of several Doberman, I have run into several perplexing behaviour problems that standard obedience training didn't seem to touch. These dogs have a strong will to dominate, and if it is not corrected, they can be quite difficult to have in a family setting. The usual confrontational methods have not worked to produce a self-controlled dog, and with one of our dogs turned out to be downright dangerous! It had bitten, and was very close to being put to sleep. I am only several days into the process using Jan's methods. All I can say is "IT WORKS!" "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT ???"
“All I can say is that the proof is in the eating, and these methods are extremely effective, whatever some other "experts" might think because they don't fit with their own approach. A bit of imagination can adapt the fundamental approach to whatever individual situation is being faced. I just wish I had had this book available when I was dealing with some of my more difficult rescue cases in the past!”
“Jan's books have been a life saver to me and my two adorable English staffies. Thank you!!! Xxx”- Emma Andre
My dog's extreme separation anxiety was the reason I stumbled across Amichien Bonding. Her anxiety was that bad I thought there was no hope of fixing the problem. How wrong I was!! Having a Dog Listener come out and help me was THE best thing I ever did. So much so that I am now a Dog Listener myself and I help dog owners overcome their dog's 'behavioural issues' everyday”.-Hayley Wright.
Hello there, I hope you don't mind me writing to you, I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the advice and help we (my dog and I) got from your books
My dog is a German Shepherd called Jay Jay, as you said, when we went to look at the litter of puppies we chose one who didn't run straight over to us, he was laying there quite happy then came over for a cuddle
From then on we followed your lead, having a few problems on the way but getting over them super quick
He is now 2 and is the most wonderful dog on the planet, he's happy with his place in the pack, he's super content, he's an absolute joy to our family
This is partly down to him being a superstar dog and partly down to you, so thank you
He has also helped me out alot in a personal POV, I suffer from agoraphobia and for months back there I didn't go out or talk to anyone, but Jay was always there
after a while Jay and I would go out when it was quiet and he'd stay by my side, having him there really helped and now theres no stopping us! Donna Taylor-Walton
Just started implementing your technique two days ago. For two years I've lived with a rescue dog who I thought was un-teachable (and HAS been unteachable using the 'usual' dog training technique). In two days, I've seen so much progress. Today, for the first time, she sat on command. Of her own volition, and with pride. Thank you. Amanda Hohmann
The Dog Listener- Her suggestions are so simple that, as a dog owner for many years, I thought they could not possibly work. I was so wrong that I was amazed. Within Days my two Labradors were so much more relaxed and better behaved that I experienced a fresh delight in keeping dogs. Over the years I have read many books on dog training and this is the best. Denis-Amazon review
Hi Jan, I picked up your book second hand a week ago, and have just started using your techniques and it is instant results! So grateful I have found your book. My two dogs are chi x terrier and pappillion x chi and small, so I didn't pay much attention to their dominating behaviour thinking it was kinda of cute. But these techniques have calmed them down and we are having much more fun when out walking. Thank you, awesome! Sara Mitchel
After completing the Foundation Course I was so captivated by the knowledge I had gained that I couldn't wait to learn more.
I wasn't disappointed- the Advanced Course turned on so many light bulbs above my head I must have looked like a Christmas tree!
I would recommend this course to anyone who is curious to know just what is going on in their dog's mind-it has been a revelation!
I would also like to say that the staff at the Great Western Hotel were brilliant. Polite and helpful at all times and not forgetting Tania in the Amichien Bonding office who kept us all updated, organised and informed! Thanks so much to all involved. Lisa Magna
I very much enjoyed the course and can't wait to do the Advanced course. The course also made me more certain that helping improve the lives of our "best friend" is something which i committed to doingand I believe that Amichien bonding is the best method to achieve this. Joanna Middleton
This course lived up to all expectations and then some. The information received was delivered in an interesting and engaging manner. I would recommend this course to anyone who wishes to learn more about canine communications and why their dog or dogs do what they do. Thank you Jan, Tony and the rest of the Team for opening my eyes! Donna Golding
I just wanted to drop a line to tell you how much I have enjoyed the new Dog Listener Online Course. I have read "The Dog Listener" three times now, but there's just something about seeing videos and having the information presented in a little different way that helps my learning enormously. I think, too, that I'm a person that learns things more easily when there is a touch of humor involved, so I greatly appreciated that in the course.
This online course is truly terrific and I'm so happy to have it to refer back to whenever I need a refresher. One day I hope to take the Dog Listener course in person. I strongly believe in the Amichien Method and would like to further my understanding of it for myself and my dogs. It has transformed our lives together!
With gratitude, Rebecca Trono
Jan and her team put on an excellent course, I loved it and do want to progress in this and become a Dog Listener. Get my own dog right first and I'll see you next Year on the Advanced Course. Julia Bailey
Think your work is absolutely fantastic and really hope to become part of it. It would be a real gift. Mette Jorgensen
I couldn't be happier with the course. It was far better than I had hoped and I had high hopes! It left me hungry to learn more but luckily for me I was booked to continue the journey and completed the Advanced Course over the next three days. Such a good experience and well worth the money spent. Lisa Magna
I thought this class really helped me comprehend the true meaning of the book. I am so looking forward to future classes. I only wish I had more free time from my own business to take more classes in a shorter period of time. Thank you for taking your time to spread the word of your research and amazing techniques that really create a stress free life for my dogs. Heidi Fox
Hi David, just to let you know that I managed to get hold of Tony over the phone who gave some precious advice (he thinks forthemoment we can try a distant correction as it's quite a common problem that my dog has).Thank you, you are great guys!- Tatiana Raniolo
I would like to say a huge thank you to Jan, Ellie and Karina for the well presented course. I cannot thank you enough for helping me to understand my dogs and helping them to live a happy, stress free life. It is not just helping them, my husband and I are more relaxed and stress free. It works both ways.Keep it simple and it works when we work it daily in our own lives. Happy dogs, happy owners what a life. Michelle Dickinson
“Dear Jan
It was a truly eye opening and mind changing experience to be attending the Foundation Course in Flixborough last week end. I am absolutely thrilled to have been there! It was great to meet you in person and that Tony and Ellie were there to assist you as well as Julie and Mervi. Thank y'all so very much :-)
I have to tell you that I have started AB at home with our own dog in the way you have recommended. And she responds beautifully. It is great to see the changes in such a short time. This inspires us to continue with AB. Also I was able to let AB flow a little bit into the puppy class I had last night and it works! As soon as the owner starts behaving in the right AB-kind-of-way the puppies immediately change their behavior! It is such a great experience! I am really thrilled! I am looking forward to the advanced course next year. Hope to see you soon again and thank you again for your great work and for making the lives of our dogs so much more pleasant! :-))” Rolf
"I just wanted to write this quick message because I couldn't believe it was you - without a word of a lie Jan’s book the Dog Listener 100% changed my life! I have been involved in rescue more than eight years.
I stumbled across Jan’s book by accident and as I read each page I'm like “yep that's happening in my yard… oh my goodness that's why they are doing that!” and so it goes! I purchased all her other books and multiple copies of the dog listener so I could lend it out (I actually don't think I have a copy any more because they are all out with people!)
Anyway I have since re-homed over 600 dogs and all but four or five have lived socially with each other.
Again I can't tell you how significant Jan’s books were to me and how they have gone on to shape LabraDOG Rescue. I am very clearly able to provide the people adopting our labs the resource and understanding they need to settle their new dog in and that comes directly from Jan! Anyway can't thank you enough!" Amanda Scott
"I attended the Foundation and Advanced Courses this week - in a word - AMAZING! I am a true convert and already have friends beating a path to my door to hear all about it!" Liza Shardlow
“I just wanted to say 'thank you' for Jan's marvellous work and her books. I took on two rescue dogs 6 months ago and followed Jan's 30 day programme. They quickly became the sweetest dogs you can imagine! One of them couldn't even wag her tail - the muscles wouldn't work! - she had obviously had a tough previous life - but now she wags her tail with the best of them. Thank you so much for your help via your books and DVD. I am so impressed I am going to buy the set of DVD's. Please pass my thanks onto Jan. Best wishes”,Andria King
“Hi Tony ....Don't know what to say ... but thank you for the "Ding" moments!!! I had sooooooooooooo very many more when I got home to my pack!! The hardest thing for me was the "throne" .... arrrggghhhhhh!!! But ..... guess what (I'm even frightened to type it) ... It worked!!!!!! I got "movement"from my rescue girl Stella!!! She came to me for kisses and cuddles!!! Can't wait to implement the rest! And can I add ... "intense" ... yes it was! but clear, and most definitely understoood, A lot to process but have all the time and patience to redefine my bond with my pack! Eternally grateful!!!"Ding.... Ding.... Ding"!!!!” Trish, Albury
IN FEBRUARY 2012 I TRAVELLED TO GEELONG IN VICTORIA AUSTRALIA AND DID YOUR COURSE ON AMICHIEN BONDING....THANK YOU BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE AND LEARNT SO MUCH.........JUST WONDERING WHEN I WOULD HAVE THE OPORTUNITY TO DO THE ADVANCED COURSE IN AMICHIEN BONDING. MANY THANKS…. LEANNE NAPIER
Hi Jan and Crew, I just wanted to say that I think you are awesome!
Last year we adopted an ex racing greyhound through GAP/Greyhounds As Pets (greyhoundsaspets.org.nz) and your book 'The Dog Listener' was recommended to us by the organisation, as it is to all new owners. It was a great help as we hadn't owned a dog as a family before. I also lend out my copy to friends when they are having issues with their dogs.
Luckily Stanley was very easy to train and responded well to everything we taught him, as long as we were consistent.
I have also watched your DVD on numerous occasions and get it out from the library every few months as I enjoy watching it so much and how you deal with the many problem dogs out there....Sarah Davis
“What I love most, is that we're all 'guilty' of wanting to love our dogs no end ... what I figured after the course is that's fine ...only they definitely need our respect too ... and they only get that in abundance when it is showed to us (humans) first, and what I loved most is the course would not have made sense without the accompanying wolf videos first!
Watching them interact, learning what those interactions mean... makes my'issues' with mine not so bad at all ... only misunderstood! As I said ... I've had plenty of "Ding" moments and the gesture eating has already seen a slight change in the posture of my dogs whilst waiting for their food... everso slight, but I've noticed it.. and that's enough 'proof' for me!!! And also"learning to speak dog" makes so much sense! We humans are such silly creatures using human speak to communicate with our dogs... and ourrelationship with our 'best friend' has suffered because of it. My only little test was to remain "mute" and use the least amount of words, but rather use my own body language and movement to communicate ... and no, I do not howl!!!!! :) But seriously, I cannot thank you and your methods enough, and only wished you did house calls!!!!!” T. Santinon
Dear David, Many thanks for taking the time to reply to my e-mail. I SHALL CARRY ON & MAKE SURE ALL MY FRIENDS GET THE DVD - IT'S G R E A T. You have empowered us to be in control in a relaxed way, resulting in a much happier household & definitely a more relaxed & happy chappy ! CAROL & PETER CARTWRIGHT
Categorically unsurpassed, this revolutionary method is simple but effective. A must read for all dog owners!, I cannot recommend this book highly enough to all dog lovers and owners, who want to gain an understanding of how their canine friend communicates and acts in theway that he/she does. Lucinda
This book is brilliant and all dog owners should read it. Mrs RF Gray
I read the book in one day, finding I could not put it down, within hours of putting the advice into practice my two large dogs were calmer and less noisy, days down the road we no longer get "mugged" when we come home, still putting the advice into practice its so simple and have purchased 2 more copies for fellow dog lovers if I was rich I would buy dozens for all my dog loving pals, well done to Jan, the book did make me cry more than once however! Denise Coulbeck
IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG - INVEST IN THIS BOOK!! Although the book is primarily aimed at problem dogs, as a result of faithfully following the advice, our new puppy has settled wonderfully into her new 'pack'. It feels lovely as an owner to be able to understand exactly what she wants, and to see her return our affection in an appropriate way. I can't stress enough what a life-saver (literally) this book is.
Thank you Jan! Mrs K Doswell
Ever wondered why your dog goes berserk every time the doorbell rings? Or why he pulls so much on the lead? And why does he have to attack the front door when the postman arrives? Jan Fennell truly does understand our canine friends. She has devoted much of her life developing a simple method known as "amichien bonding" in an effort to bring man and dog even closer together through improved communication. Her technique can only lead to a happier co-existence for man and dog, and what's more, it's simple and it works. D Jones
I decided to order this book immediately after seeing a programme on Channel 5 featuring Jan Fennel, called 'The Dog Listener'. In my opinion, 'The Dog Listener' is a brilliant book, and I recommend it to dog lovers everywhere. It is no surprise to me that this book has entered the bestseller's list this week. I am already looking forward to Jan's next volume. M.F Mahon
Be prepared to reassess your own motives and objectively examine how you and your family interact with your dog. If you want a substitute baby this isn't the book for you. If you want to be complemented on your dog's behaviour everytime you go out then buy this book without delay. Jan Kitching
Having had dogs all my life I was pleasantly surprised to learn a few new tricks. I bought the book in desperation to try to cure my collie bitch of her incessant barking - having spent a lot of time & money on devices and techniques that had failed to make even a small improvement. Within two days of trying Jan Vennall's advice not only was she noticably quieter, but so were the rest of the pack. I'm also trying to cure another collie of his separation anxiety - more difficult due to some bad experiences he had as a youngster before we took him on from the RSPCA. I would certainly recommend this book as a first resort - I think I will be going back to it time and again. LJ Lewis
this book is 10 out of 5 stars!!!
Such simple ideas, such gr8 results. You will NEVER look back on Jan's lifestyle of you and your doggy home. Hey, let the dog chose how to behave beautifully. - You know he wants to. Scott Harris
What an inspiring, and compulsive read this book is. Well done Jan! Like many other dog owners around the country, having read the book I saw my dog in a different light, and he suddenly realised who was in charge...little old me. The book is easy to read and follow and the results are stunning within a short amount of time IF you stick to what is explained and more importantly, understand why each method is used. Can't wait to read the next book! Debbie Saunders
I bought this book because I was having terrible problems with my 4 yr old German Shepherd. From page one I was hooked. I totally understood and agreed with everything she had written. I too have always felt that there had to be another way of getting through to our canine companions. Since putting her teachings into practice I have seen an improvement in "Khan" and it only took a few days of "Calm and Consistent" (her watchwords) to see that it was going to work. We still have a lot of work to do with him but if this had not shown results the vet was already discussing the alternative, which was to have him destroyed. Basically this book has saved Khan's life. Well written, thought provoking and well worth buying. Angela Haldron
Our two black labradors, aged 10 and 8, have become like new creatures. Before, Holly thought she was alpha dog. Now she knows I am. Jan's techniques are excellent. The DVD is even better, and a visit from one of her team consolidated the learning process.
Very happy to now know about 'gesture eating' and the golden five minutes which has shown them both who's boss!
My life is much easier.
Great stuff Jan. Debbie Flint
I have always been a huge fan of Jan Fennell. Her books and theadvice contained in them have helped me out enormously. Her system of body language works better than all those silly puppy classes. I now have theworld's best behaved black Labrador, ALL thanks to Jan Fennell.
I can HIGHLY recommend this book, The Seven Ages of Your Dog and all Jan's other ones, to anybody with a dog or thinking about getting one. “Insomniac”
I wish I had read Jan's book before we started owning dogs. This is a must read for any new dog owners or those who have become complacent withtheir dog's bad habits. It will make for an easier household. It is simple, uncomplicated, good advice which makes you realise that it is you, notthedog. Brilliant! Mrs A P Bonner
