Beginning with a Puppy

Bringing a puppy into your family should be such a wonderful experience, with the magic combination of a loving Carer and an enthusiastic, adorable baby. However, many people come to this relationship with a great many concerns and some apprehension, just as any parent would feel knowing that they are responsible for the welfare of this vulnerable life, for all of its lifetime.

This potentially joyous nature of sharing life with a dog is special and, as long as the information given to the puppy/dog is both appropriate and correct, success is guaranteed. However if the Carer is misinformed this will block the desired harmony.

There are many damaging and limiting beliefs associated with working with a dog, from the need to use force to the type of breed being the cause of any encountered difficulty.  The truth is that, once we learn to see our world through the eyes of a puppy/dog, we can work with its nature and adopt the language of success, then success is what we can experience.

Using the correct language also enables Carers to adopt the attitude of success and is achieved simply by changing the words that we use when we come to work with our puppy.

By simply changing the words   ‘training’,‘obedience’, and ‘command’ and replacing them with ‘teaching’, ‘co-operation and ‘requests’ we take the first steps to building a ‘friendship’ and, just as we teach our children good manners, appropriate behaviour and respect in the safety of our own homes, this method ‘Amichien® Bonding’, will empower you to do exactly the same with your puppy.

All healthy puppies arrive with their instinctive survival mechanism firmly in place and, true to their kind, every puppy is looking for someone to make them feel safe and confident; someone that they can follow. You can meet those needs simply by communicating with your puppy in a way it will naturally understand and teaching with patience and positive reinforcement and thereby avoiding all undesirable behaviour.

In the book or DVD titled ‘The Dog Listener’ you will find the route to this success and this applies to all dogs, every breed, age and experience.  ‘The Puppy Listener’ (taken from the first chapters of ‘The Seven Ages of Your Dog’ UK. ‘The Seven ages of Your Best Friend in the USA), provides a wealth of information including veterinary advice, all of which will help you create the perfect start with your puppy.  There is also an audio CD ‘Puppies’, in which Jan and her son and colleague,Tony Knightdiscuss this subject in-depth and how to ensure success. As with all of our teaching, we share with you the reasoning for all of our work along with the techniques.

Whether you are seeking assistance and understanding of dog behaviour, dog obedience, dog training, puppy training, the world of rescue dogs, canine behaviour, Assistance dog training or simply living in harmony with your puppy/dog there is no better start than embracing the work of the original ‘Dog Listener’ Jan Fennell
