FOUNDATION COURSES
The 2-day Foundation Course gives a fascinating and practical introduction to the world of Dog Listening. Students will learn what makes a dog tick, understand exactly why dogs do what they do and discover precisely how to successfully solve problems.
The purpose of the foundation course is to create a deep understanding of the domestic dog. By looking at the principles of shaping positive behaviour, we share the secrets of getting the animal to want to work for us of its own free will, not because it has to.
We examine the psychology, behaviour patterns, instincts and values of the domestic dog. We show how, with this understanding, we are able to change undesirable behaviour the kind way. There will be comprehensive analysis of the core method that is ‘Amichien® Bonding’: with examples of common problems and in-depth discussions on kind correction, examination of situations, behaviours and correction of undesirable behaviour.
This course is highly beneficial, not only to those who experience problems with their dogs, but for ALL dog owners and people who work with dogs. On the completion of the course trainees will receive a certificate, and above all the ability to appreciate 'man’s best friend' in an entirely different light.
The Book entitled "The Dog Listener" by Jan Fennell is recommended reading before booking a course.
To book a place on a Foundation course, simply send us an email inserting 'Foundation Course Booking' into the subject box, and your full name, address, phone number and your choice of first and second dates.
ADVANCED COURSES
The Advanced course is better understood if the delegate has first taken the 2 day Foundation Course and is essential if the delegate wishes to be considered for a career as a Jan Fennell International Dog Listener.
The careful design of this course makes it possible for the delegate to progress naturally and with empathy to an in depth understanding of ‘Amichien Bonding’ and its application with common behavioural problems.
We also look at the difficulties experienced by dog carers, from breaking with old thinking to actually working with their dogs in a confident manner and to achieve this we will also look at human psychology.
For those delegates considering a career in Dog Listening there will be a written examination at the end of the course. The exam will be based entirely on the information contained in the recommended reading of ‘The Dog Listener’ (or the watching of the DVD of that title) and the ‘Practical Dog Listener, combined with the information provided in both the two and three day courses. As our organisation works to a high ‘Quality Control’ system it is essential, for the success of both the organisation and the candidate that we ascertain the level of an individual’s basic understanding of the process ‘Amichien® Bonding’ and questions will be marked and scored accordingly.
Success at this stage will result in an invitation from this organisation to take part in the ‘Graduate’ stage of the process of becoming a ‘Jan Fennell International Dog Listener’, which will result in access to the entire Dog Listening Team, which provides all members with on-going support, learning, referrals and a place on the role of JFIDL’s worldwide.
GRADUATE COURSES
For students who wish to start a new career as a Dog Listener and be recommended and guided by Jan Fennell and the Amichien® team.
Graduate Courses are not bookable by the general public and are by invitation only, following success in the Advanced Course exam. The course is conducted on-line and run by highly trained Dog Listeners.
ONE DAY ENHANCEMENT COURSE FOR DOG LISTENERS
This course is designed for Dog Listeners who have already attained "Graduate" level and wish to further increase their knowledge of Amichien® Bonding.
Jan will cover the detailed and subtle information that she has found so helpful, information that is outside of the scope of Foundation, Advanced and Graduate Courses.
The Course will start at 9 am and finish at 4.30pm with refreshments and 'get to know each other' time.
In the morning you will look, in depth, at the life stages of all dogs, highlighting problems that can arise from their instincts and needs and how they change with age. You will also cover the other major influences in this area, which are; the individual personality of the dog and its physical condition.
Jan will also cover the interaction between dogs within their own family unit, good management strategies, as well as what can be expected when out in the wide world meeting other dogs, whether in familiar groups or strangers and the 'pressure cooker' effect that can exacerbate many dog behavioural issues.
